Timeline

1957

James Collier Sr. founds Colmet LLC, originally known as Oak Cliff Fan Co., which initially manufactures residential attic fans and services evaporative coolers, precursors to refrigerated air conditioning units.

1958

Colmet receives a patent for and begins manufacturing a new product called steel landscape edging.

1960s – 1970s

Colmet’s focus shifts as Mr. Collier starts sheet metal fabrication for roof flashing and other home construction products. Additionally, the business expands into producing and selling nursery and garden center products, including galvanized steel lawn edging and sign holders.

1977

Oak Cliff Metal Specialties Logo

Oak Cliff Metal Specialties Co. is formed.

1981

Colmet outgrows its Oak Cliff location and moves to a 10,000-square-foot building in Garland, Texas.

Collier Metal Specialties logo

Oak Cliff Metal Specialties Co. becomes Collier Metal Specialties Inc.

1981-1985

Colmet begins selling its Classic Steel Edging. Initially popular with commercial landscapers, it is later made available to homeowners in 10-foot-long strips.

1987

Colmet installs its first paint line for steel edging.

1990

Col-met Logo

The company adopts the trade name COL-MET, an abbreviation of Collier Metal.

1994

We install a new paint line, featuring a much-improved wash system and dry-off oven.

1998

Colmet moves into a new purpose-built facility in Garland, Texas.

2000

Colmet files a patent for and begins manufacturing Attached-Stake Edging.

2002

We begin powder-coating our edging.

2020

Colmet logo

COL-MET rebrands as Colmet, removing the dash and separating the two letter sets in the logo with gold and steel gray. Gold represents the company’s legacy and the first stage of steel oxidation, while gray symbolizes the color of hot-rolled steel. This striking color difference honors the company’s heritage and recognizes the 30-year history of the dash in the logo.

2021

Colmet receives a design patent on its FloraForm™ steel planter.

2023

Colmet is awarded a utility patent on QuickLock™ Steel Edging.

Defining the Future

Relocate Colmet to rail-served property in Rockwall, Texas, and begin transload and toll processing operations.
