Colmet
Timeline
1957
James Collier Sr. founds Colmet LLC, originally known as Oak Cliff Fan Co., which initially manufactures residential attic fans and services evaporative coolers, precursors to refrigerated air conditioning units.
1958
Colmet receives a patent for and begins manufacturing a new product called steel landscape edging.
1960s – 1970s
Colmet’s focus shifts as Mr. Collier starts sheet metal fabrication for roof flashing and other home construction products. Additionally, the business expands into producing and selling nursery and garden center products, including galvanized steel lawn edging and sign holders.
1977
Oak Cliff Metal Specialties Co. is formed.
1981
Colmet outgrows its Oak Cliff location and moves to a 10,000-square-foot building in Garland, Texas.
Oak Cliff Metal Specialties Co. becomes Collier Metal Specialties Inc.
1981-1985
Colmet begins selling its Classic Steel Edging. Initially popular with commercial landscapers, it is later made available to homeowners in 10-foot-long strips.
1987
Colmet installs its first paint line for steel edging.
1990
The company adopts the trade name COL-MET, an abbreviation of Collier Metal.
1994

1998
Colmet moves into a new purpose-built facility in Garland, Texas.

2020
COL-MET rebrands as Colmet, removing the dash and separating the two letter sets in the logo with gold and steel gray. Gold represents the company’s legacy and the first stage of steel oxidation, while gray symbolizes the color of hot-rolled steel. This striking color difference honors the company’s heritage and recognizes the 30-year history of the dash in the logo.
2021
Colmet receives a design patent on its FloraForm™ steel planter.
2023
Colmet is awarded a utility patent on QuickLock™ Steel Edging.
